Ideally, you should start 12-18 months before your intended intake. This gives you enough time for test preparation, university shortlisting, application preparation, and visa processing. Most countries have two main intakes β September/October (Fall) and January/February (Spring). Some countries like Australia also have mid-year intakes in July.

Most countries require proof of English proficiency through tests like IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE. However, some exceptions exist: Students who completed their previous education in English may be exempt. Some universities accept Duolingo as an alternative. A few programs offer conditional admission without English scores, allowing you to take a language course first.
